According to a recent Teen Vogue article, “Plastic is cluttering oceans and beaches and killing sea life, largely as a result of gyres, large systems of circulating ocean currents. They work a bit like the water in your toilet during a flush, pulling everything into them, and unfortunately, there’s no disappearing act once trash or plastic gets sucked into a gyre — it just circulates there forever, leaving swirling cyclones of plastic soup in all of the world’s oceans. The plastic often winds up on the beaches nearest the gyres or in the stomachs of seabirds and fish, where it eventually takes up so much space they can no longer fit food.”
A quarter of the fish sold in California, for example, has been found to contain plastic. The amount of end-of-life plastic packaging, which includes bottles, jars, bags, and “other,” surrounding U.S. products has increased by over 120 times since 1960. In 2018, in the U.S. alone, almost 7.9 billion units of rigid plastic were created just for beauty and personal care products, according to Euromonitor International.
We can all do our part to protect our bodies and our health by choosing to purchase sustainable products. Caring for my body and the environment is essential tenets by which I live my life. I avidly search for products that are natural, clean, and environmentally friendly. That’s how I found Myro.
I love their fragrances and I love the concept of buying just one deodorant container that I can refill as needed rather than purchasing deodorant in new plastic containers every month. Myro is also very affordable and the monthly subscription means it’s one less thing I have to worry about.
