3 Health Advances in Virtual Reality to Watch

I love my Oculus Quest. Since owning it, I have been amazed at the world of opportunities available to me. From working out on the Great Wall of China, to meditating in outer space, or being able to attend a virtual film party during last year’s Sundance Festival, I’ve really enjoyed taking advantage of the opportunities that VR has brought into my life.

From the outside it may look like VR is an entertainment. tool for gamers and content consumers. What most people fail to see is the potential of VR to transcend locality and enable humans to surpass the barriers of the physical. We’re already seeing companies like Couch Travel that allow people to travel in real time around the world, even visiting several countries in one day. It’s fascinating.

Treatment for Social Anxiety

Khora is behind the technical VR solution that is based on 360 degree video recordings. It contains different exposure stimuli that can be chosen from a catalogue of 27 scenes in 5 different scenarios e.g. ”The Supermarket”, The Party”, ”The Presentation”, ”The Cafeteria” and ”The Auditorium”. The SO REAL solution will be implemented in the standard treatment package offered to patients with social anxiety disorder at two major psychotherapeutic outpatient clinics in the Capital Region of Denmark.

Improved Training for Medical Students

With DevDen’s Human Anatomy VR application, you can view minute details of any part of the body in stunning 360° view & create training scenarios which replicate common surgical procedures.

As the world of VR continues to evolve, more and more products are coming to market that are changing the game for digital health. I’m excited to see what comes out next to improve our lives and our health.
