Day Two on the Camino Francés: Magic, Mountains, and Milestones

Day Two on the Camino Francés: A Perfect Start

Day two on the Camino Francés was simply magnificent. We were blessed with perfect weather from start to finish such as the sunlight filtering through the trees, cool mountain air, and a sky that seemed painted just for us. Walking with my fast friend and fellow pilgrim, Maja, was the best kind of company. Her energy was infectious, and we laughed our way through miles that would have felt impossible alone.

Maja even caught me in some candid shots I didn’t know she was taking, so I’ll have plenty of memories to share. Moments like these make the Camino Francés feel both magical and real at the same time. Every step was a mix of challenge and reward, reminding me that this journey isn’t just about finishing the trail. It’s about experiencing it fully.

The Pyrenees and Forest Wonders

The Pyrenees were breathtaking. Wandering through the forest felt like stepping into a fairytale straight out of Hansel and Gretel. Sunlight danced through the trees, moss covered the ground like a soft carpet, and every corner held a new surprise.

Along the way, I made a few animal friends, including a curious horse who approached me as if to say hello. Those little moments were unexpected joys that made the miles feel lighter. I stopped often, not just to rest, but to absorb the beauty around me. Each pause felt like a gentle reminder to notice the small things like flowers blooming, birds singing, and even the crunch of leaves beneath my boots.

Physical Challenge Meets Emotional Reward

This walk was no joke. The Camino Francés is hard. It’s humbling. But it is also deeply rewarding. Every step felt cathartic, filling me with an almost euphoric joy I can’t fully put into words. By the time I reached the end of the day, I felt both exhausted and elated.

Thankfully, I had the sense to ship my backpack ahead. Carrying it across the mountains would have been brutal. Still, I kept repeating to myself, “I can’t believe I’m actually doing this.” And I really was. Fourteen miles, 31,828 steps. Unbelievable.

Sharing the Trail with Fellow Pilgrims

Part of what makes the Camino Francés so special is the people you meet along the way. I loved stopping with fellow pilgrims, swapping stories, laughing about our aching feet, knees, and backs. Each connection, even if brief, added a layer of joy to the journey.

The Camino Francés isn’t just about the scenery or the miles. It’s about the shared human experience. These encounters, however fleeting, remind you that you are part of something larger than yourself.

Capturing Day Two

I captured some of the best moments on video, from the forested trails to the playful animals and breathtaking views. You can watch the journey on my YouTube channel. Seeing the trail in motion brings it to life in a way words alone cannot.

If you enjoy following along, you can support me and keep these adventures alive by buying me a coffee. Your support helps me continue sharing the magic, challenges, and joys of the Camino Francés.

Looking Ahead

Day two was a reminder that the Camino Francés is about more than endurance. It’s about noticing, connecting, and celebrating even the small victories along the trail. Tomorrow promises rocky paths, self-reflection, and unexpected joys as I walk from Roncesvalles to Zubiri. You can read about that in Day Three on the Camino Francés.
