Food and Music at SXSW 2019

The South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference & Festivals celebrate the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, SXSW® is the premier destination for discovery.

Europe = sustainability, culture, creativity, diversity, music, women’s empowerment, trade, innovation, and cutting-edge tech. www.euintheus.org/sxsw

The best thing about attending SXSW is that you never have to worry about finding free food. It’s almost everywhere and the best part about that is that it’s almost always accompanied by live music.

I spent every afternoon in one house or another, taking in live music and enjoying delicious bites. I found myself learning about tiny houses, jamming out, and enjoying free drinks at the Door Dash Lounge!  I sat down by myself and my table quickly became the lack table. Met my fellow Afro-Latina sister, Janel, and had a great chat about our intersectionality journey!

The Black table! 🤣

The only things you might have to be prepared for are long lines and some events do require you to RSVP in advance. There is a great site that lists all the SXSW events that require you to RSVP, “SXSW 2020 RSVP Showcases And Parties List”.

You can either pay a small fee and have them automatically RSVP to all the events for you or you can just go through the list and RSVP yourself. The list is constantly updated so you have to keep checking it.

So no worries at all if you are trying to do the festival on a budget or maybe you don’t have a badge, you can still eat and see great live acts for free. If you’d like more info about other aspects of the festival, read my full SXSW 2019 review Living My Best Life at SXSW 2019 for information about this fabulous event.

DoorDash hosted a pop-up with Torchy’s Tacos, providing “free Torchy’s tacos, chips, queso, free drinks. games, and daily live music from a tiny house with a big backyard at 98 Red River Street.
