Live Out Loud: You Don’t Have to Burn Out to Begin Again
You Don’t Have to Burn Out to Begin Again
A year ago, I was exhausted in a way that had nothing to do with sleep.
From the outside, it looked like I was thriving. I was traveling, teaching, consulting, and showing up for everyone. I was doing all the things I had once dreamed about. But inside, I was unraveling. Quietly. My body was present, but my spirit felt like it was always a few steps behind.
I didn’t hit a dramatic rock bottom. There was no big crisis. Just a slow, steady sense of disconnection. I was soul tired. And that kind of exhaustion whispers to you until you finally have to listen.
Eventually, I couldn’t ignore it anymore. I had to ask myself a hard question.
Is this really the life I want, or just the one I created because I thought I was supposed to?
The Moment I Decided to Live Out Loud
One quiet morning while I was in Santa Cruz, I was sitting on my balcony with a cup of black coffee, watching the city wake up. That’s when it hit me. I had been running nonstop, going from one project to the next, constantly doing and rarely just being.
In that moment, I made a decision to stop. To slow down. To get still. And to start choosing what felt right instead of what looked right.
I let go of things that drained me. I said no to opportunities that didn’t align with my values. I created more space in my life for rest, joy, and reflection.
That moment of pause changed everything. It gave me the clarity I had been missing. It reminded me that I don’t need anyone else’s permission to live a life that feels true to me.
What “Living Out Loud” Actually Means
Living out loud isn’t about shouting your goals from the rooftops or staying busy all the time. It’s not about being louder than everyone else.
To me, living out loud means choosing honesty, alignment, and ease. It means trusting yourself enough to walk away from what no longer fits. It means listening to your inner voice instead of drowning it out with noise.
Here are a few of the things I work through with my coaching clients when they decide they’re ready for this kind of shift:
- Creating a life that matches your current values and not your old expectations
- Letting go of guilt around rest, softness, and joy
- Learning to pivot gracefully when something just isn’t working
- Building strong but kind boundaries that protect your peace
- Making space for what really matters, even when it feels scary
3 Signs You Might Be Ready for a Soft Reset
You don’t have to wait for burnout to make a change. Here are a few signs that it might be time to realign:
1. You’re successful on paper but unfulfilled in real life.
Gratitude and discontent can exist at the same time. You can appreciate your life and still want more from it.
2. You’re always tired, no matter how much rest you get.
That kind of fatigue is a signal. It is not just physical. It is emotional and spiritual.
3. You feel a quiet ache for something else but can’t name it.
That sense of something missing is often the start of transformation. You don’t have to know the destination to take the first step.
How to Begin Again Without Burning Out
You don’t have to quit your job or move across the world to make a meaningful change. (Although I’ve done both.) Sometimes, the first step is simply getting honest with yourself and making space for clarity.
Here’s what helped me, and what I guide my coaching clients through:
- Start a daily ritual that grounds you, even if it’s just ten minutes
- Revisit your core values and check in with what feels aligned now
- Set soft, soul-centered goals rather than rigid ones
- Find a space where you can process, reflect, and plan with support
