No Bun, No Problem – Fried Cheeseburger Recipe
Today, my son asked for cheeseburgers for lunch, but I didn’t have any buns, and I wasn’t in the mood to bake them either. However, I didn’t want to disappoint him, so I remembered a trick I learned a while back: coating the burgers with flour instead of buns. The best part? It turns out that this method is healthier, as it reduces the carb content significantly.
Here is how I did it. I started with one pound of grass-fed ground beef. I seasoned it with adobo seasoning and chili powder, but you can use any seasoning of your choice. Then, I added a cup of shredded cheese. I used Whole Foods 365 organic Mexican blend, but feel free to use any cheese you prefer.
Next, I mixed all the ingredients together and made 1/4 pound patties. I coated each patty with a layer of flour, then dipped it in an egg bath (one egg is enough). Lastly, I rolled the patties in flour again until a nice, thick coating formed.
I heated up some avocado oil in a pan and fried the patties for about 5 minutes, 2.5 minutes on each side. This gave me nicely medium-cooked patties. I prefer using avocado, peanut, or coconut oils because they can withstand high heat, and avocado oil is my favorite as it’s the best for heart health and flavor-neutral.
To complete the meal, I whipped up a handful of steak fries and lightly steamed some frozen chopped spinach, both from Whole Foods’ 365 organic line. My son topped his burger with Sir Kensington’s Chipotle Mayo, which added a delicious kick to the meal.
This recipe is easy to make, and it’s a great way to reduce the carb content of your burgers. You can experiment with different seasonings and cheeses to suit your taste, and you can also add some veggies to the mix for extra nutrition. Enjoy!
