Startup Crawl at SXSW and Why Curiosity Is Every Entrepreneur’s Advantage
One thing I love about startup events is that optimism is almost contagious. Every founder believes their idea can change something, and even when every pitch doesn’t succeed, that energy is inspiring.
During the SXSW Startup Crawl, I wandered from company to company, listening to founders explain problems they were determined to solve. Some ideas were ambitious, others practical, but all of them started with someone asking, “What if?”
That question has followed me through so many parts of my own life. Whether I have been working in international development, writing for DG Speaks, or helping people shape ideas into real projects, curiosity has always been the first door. Before the funding, the website, the logo, or the pitch, someone has to believe a different answer is possible.
The value of curiosity
Innovation doesn’t begin with funding. It begins with curiosity. The willingness to ask better questions often matters more than having all the answers.
Walking instead of rushing
I enjoyed taking my time instead of sprinting from booth to booth. Those slower conversations often revealed more than polished presentations.
If you’re building something yourself, don’t underestimate the value of simply showing up and listening. A room full of ideas can remind you that your own idea deserves attention too.
