#GEW2019 Community Kick-Off and Why Washington Loves Builders
One of the reasons I have stayed in Washington, DC as long as I have is because this city quietly believes in people with ideas. Long before startups became trendy, I found myself attending events where neighbors, nonprofit founders, technologists, artists, and small business owners gathered to solve problems together.
That spirit brought me to the #GEW2019 Community Kick-Off Celebration. The event itself was enjoyable, but what kept my attention was the community behind it. Entrepreneurs rarely succeed in isolation. They grow because someone introduces them to the right mentor, asks the right question, or opens the right door.
A city that invests in entrepreneurs
Washington offers far more than politics. Throughout the year, the city hosts networking events, workshops, accelerators, and training opportunities that encourage people to move from ideas to action.
The best conversations happen before and after the program
I have learned that some of the most valuable exchanges happen over coffee, while waiting in line, or as people are leaving. Those are the moments where partnerships begin.
My takeaway
Communities grow when they celebrate the people willing to build something new. Events like this remind me why I continue investing my own time in entrepreneurship, consulting, and storytelling.
