Happy People, Dark Thoughts: The Shocking Reality of Depression in America
To hear of the suicide of a 40-year-old father of 3, known for his creativity and magnetic personality is shocking to many who followed the career of Stephen “tWitch” Boss. However, this death is not an isolated issue. We can’t just post numbers for hotlines and use cliches like “don’t suffer alone.” We have to actually care when people are suffering.
In 2020, 45,979 Americans died by suicide.
We have to want to hear when people complain or share feelings that might inconvenience us. I’m tired of people pretending to care when someone kills themself, knowing very well that they live in their own cocoons totally unconcerned for the well-being of others. We have to do better as a society, as families, and as humans.
We have to learn EMPATHY! Too many lives are being lost because people are being overcome by depression all while surrounded by folks claiming they had no idea the person was struggling. We must stop discounting the emotions of others and only showing up when it’s time to have fun. This death is so tragically heartbreaking! 💔
