I’m Colombian and Coffee is in My Blood!

I love, love, love coffee, and drink it every single day. As a Colombian, loving coffee is in our blood. Colombia is one of the largest coffee producers in the world, and the coffee culture is deeply ingrained in our daily lives. From social gatherings to business meetings, coffee is a staple of our culture and a symbol of hospitality.

What makes Colombian coffee so special is its unique flavor profile. Colombian coffee is known for its bright acidity, medium body, and sweet caramel notes. This flavor profile is a result of the country’s ideal climate and geography, which provide the perfect conditions for growing high-quality coffee beans.

There are many people who still believe coffee is bad for your health and even though that was once accepted as fact, we now know better.

  • Coffee contains many nutrients and antioxidants. Each cup consumed gives you “riboflavin (11% of the RDA), potassium (3%), magnesium, and niacin (2% each).”
  • The University of Miami and the University of Florida both found in studies that “those who consumed around three cups each day were also 65% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s.”
  • Several studies have found that coffee reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes with “around a 7% reduction in risk for every cup consumed, with the heaviest coffee drinkers lowering the risk by as much as 67%.”

I think there is nothing better than the smell of freshly brewed coffee except free roasted coffee! LOL

Drinking coffee for me is all about the ritual. It has to be piping hot so I can sip and blow, sip, and blow, all while deeply breathing in the aroma. It’s the most relaxing thing ever. It’s the best way for me to start my day.

If you drink coffee, make sure you’re also getting enough water in your diet because it is a diuretic. For me, nothing knocks out a migraine like a hot cup of coffee. I’d much rather drink it anyway than pop pain meds. I also love that coffee is a great appetite suppressant. However, like most things, coffee has its benefits and drawbacks.

Of course, if you want to make the health benefits of coffee you can’t fill every cup with excessive amounts of sugar and cream. Moderation is the key!

That being said coffee can indeed make a great occasional treat. One of my favorite things to do is go for coffee with friends and family.

Fun fact!

Did you know that espresso actually has less caffeine than brewed coffee? The lighter the roast the higher the caffeine because roasting actually cooks away the caffeine. Even though espresso and other dark roasts taste fuller, they do not contain as much caffeine. So next time you’re at Starbucks and you need every boost you might want to ask for a Blonde and skip the espresso drinks.
