A Birthday Reflection on Becoming My Own Home
birthday reflection became part of my story long before it became a clean headline. Birthdays always make me take inventory of who I am becoming.
Home Is More Than An Address
For years, I thought home had to be one place. Then life taught me that home can be a body, a voice, a memory, and a way of moving through the world.
As a Black and Latina woman, I carry many homes. Some are joyful. Some are complicated. All of them shaped me.
A Life With More Room
Each year, I understand freedom differently. At first, freedom looked like movement. Later, it looked like truth. Now, it looks like building a life that does not require me to betray myself.
That is why I keep writing in my own voice. My about page may tell the official story, but these essays tell the living one.
Choosing Myself Again
A birthday is not only a celebration. Sometimes, it is a quiet promise. Mine is simple. I want to live honestly, love deeply, speak clearly, and keep making room for wonder.
That is the spirit of living out loud. Not perfection. Just presence.
