Sugar-Free Fig Preserve Recipe: Naturally Sweet & Simple
One thing I absolutely love about summer in North Carolina is fig season.
Thankfully, figs are so plentiful in my family this time of year that I never seem to run out. And honestly, I’m not complaining about that at all. Recently, I ended up with more fresh figs than I could eat, so I decided to make a small batch of homemade sugar-free fig preserve.
And let me tell you, it turned out so good.
One thing about my cooking style is that I like to use as much of the whole ingredient as possible. Not only does it help reduce waste, but it also improves nutrition and supports a more sustainable way of cooking.
That’s exactly why I use the entire fig in this recipe.
The skin helps naturally thicken the preserve while also adding extra fiber. Plus, figs are already naturally sweet, so I don’t see much reason to overload them with sugar. In fact, I don’t use any added sugar at all in this recipe.
The result is a rich, naturally sweet preserve that tastes fresh, wholesome, and honestly better than most store-bought versions.
Why I Love This Sugar-Free Fig Preserve Recipe
One of my favorite things about this sugar-free fig preserve recipe is how versatile it is.
Of course, it tastes amazing spread over warm fried bread or flittas, but I also use it in smoothies, yogurt bowls, oatmeal, and even as a natural sweetener in other recipes.
And because it’s made with whole figs, you still get all the nutritional benefits.
Figs are rich in:
- Fiber
- Potassium
- Calcium
- Magnesium
- Antioxidants
They’re also known to support digestion and overall gut health.
Honestly, this recipe feels like summer in a jar.
