I Want Travel That Leaves Me More Human
I do not want travel that only gives me better pictures. I want travel that leaves me more human. Human travel makes me more patient, more curious, more aware of other people’s lives, and more honest about my own.
Beyond collecting destinations
It is easy to collect places without being changed by them. We can check off cities, monuments, restaurants, and tours while still moving through the world with the same assumptions we carried from home.
I want something different. I want to ask better questions. Who benefits from tourism? Who works behind the scenes? What history shaped the beauty I am admiring? This is where my writing on respectful cultural travel and slow travel feels deeply connected.
Travel as a practice of humility
Humility does not mean shrinking. It means entering a place without assuming I already understand it. It means letting local people be more than background characters in my experience.
That matters because travel can easily become extractive. I do not want to take a place’s beauty, food, music, and labor without giving respect in return.
Choosing experiences with care
A thoughtful guide can help me travel more responsibly. That is why I like looking for cultural experiences through GetYourGuide when I need context. I also appreciate practical tools like SafetyWing because preparation helps me move with more care.
The bigger lesson is that travel should stretch my humanity. If I come home with stories but no deeper respect, I have missed the point.
