Exploring the Traditional Pottery-Making Culture in Fergana Valley
I had the pleasure of delving into the traditional pottery-making culture of Fergana Valley. My journey took me from the home of a renowned ceramic master, Rustam Usmanov, to the Rishtan International Ceramics Center in the Rishtan District.
First stop, house of Rustam Usmanov
At the house of Rustam Usmanov, I had the opportunity to learn about the rich history and unique techniques of pottery decorating. His nephew shared with me the story of their family’s legacy in pottery making and the intricate designs they create using natural materials sourced from the local area. Rustam’s works have been exhibited in world exhibitions, and it’s easy to see why – the quality and craftsmanship of his pieces are truly exceptional.
Second stop, Rishtan International Ceramics Center
Next, I made my way to the Rishtan International Ceramics Center, where I was greeted by two talented ladies who were in the process of decorating pottery. Watching them work was a true delight – they moved with such skill and precision, creating intricate designs that seemed to come to life before my eyes. I couldn’t resist picking up a few pieces for myself, as well as some to give as gifts to my loved ones back home.
The ceramics produced in Fergana Valley are truly unique – each piece is infused with the history, culture, and natural beauty of the region. The Rishtan International Ceramics Center is a hub of creativity and innovation, bringing together artists and artisans from around the world to learn from one another and push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of ceramics.
