Transform Your Airbnb Space into a Healthy Haven with Dr. Stacie Stephenson’s Natural Cleaning Tips
Hey, y’all! Embracing sustainable living is my passion. As an Airbnb Ambassador, I strive to enrich your hosting experience while offering success tips that align with our commitment to protecting the environment. In the dynamic realm of Airbnb hosting, prioritizing a warm and healthy guest environment is crucial. Dr. Stacie Stephenson, a prominent figure in functional and integrative medicine, provides valuable insights on elevating your Airbnb space’s well-being through easy-to-follow natural DIY cleaning solutions.
Staying true to her philosophy of vibrant health from within, Dr. Stephenson emphasizes the importance of eliminating external toxins. I asked her what does she suggest for Airbnb hosts looking to provide a sustainable, toxic-free, and budget-friendly environment for their guests. Here’s what she had to offer.
From Dr. Stephenson:
“There are certainly many new companies popping up with excellent natural cleaning products, but they are often much more expensive than the standard chemical-laden products. You can save money and also minimize toxic exposure in your home if you make your own cleaning products out of ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen and bathroom. This is especially important if you have little ones—it has certainly become an even greater priority for me in my home, since my twin boys were born a couple of years ago!
With a few inexpensive basics, you can get a lot of cleaning accomplished: white vinegar, baking soda, liquid Castile soap, coarse salt, lemons, olive or other vegetable oil, borax, corn starch, 3% hydrogen peroxide, and tea tree essential oil, to make things smell nice and add an anti-bacterial boost.
These ingredients can easily be mixed and matched for different purposes, but my recipe for a good all-purpose cleaner is to mix ¼ cup white vinegar, ½ teaspoon of castile soap, and 3 drops of tea tree oil into 2 cups hot water in a spray bottle. You can wipe off and disinfect surfaces with this recipe.
To pre-treat stubborn food, soap, or other stains, sprinkle with some baking soda, spray with a 1:1 vinegar/water mixture, and scrub with a scrub brush. (Don’t use harsh abrasives on surfaces that could scratch.) You can also pre-treat areas with some coarse salt and lemon juice, or soften tough stains with a few drops of olive or other vegetable oil. Olive oil mixed with a little lemon juice is also nice for polishing furniture.
To clean mirrors and windows, try mixing ½ cup vinegar into a quart of water with a tablespoon of corn starch. Spray and wipe.
For mildew stains, try mixing vinegar and borax at a 1:1 ratio. Spray and scrub.
And here’s something kids might like to help with: For sluggish drains, shake a half cup of baking soda into the drain, then slowly pour in white vinegar. Watch it foam up and sizzle. Kids think this is fun.
I also clean my garbage disposal every time I eat citrus fruit. Just drop the peels down the drain, turn on the water, and run the disposal. This not only helps clean the disposal but emits a lovely aroma.“
The versatile nature of these ingredients allows hosts to mix and match for various cleaning purposes. Dr. Stephenson’s recipe for an all-purpose cleaner serves as an excellent starting point, offering a blend that not only cleans but also disinfects surfaces effectively.
For those with little ones frequenting their Airbnb space, the importance of minimizing toxic exposure becomes even more critical. Dr. Stephenson’s natural DIY cleaning solutions provide a child-friendly approach to cleaning, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for guests of all ages.
As an Airbnb host, implementing Dr. Stacie Stephenson’s natural cleaning tips not only aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly practices but also contributes to the overall well-being of your guests. Transform your space into a haven of health and cleanliness, leaving a lasting impression on those who choose to stay in your Airbnb.
