Airbnb Photography Tips: How to Take Listing Photos That Get More Bookings
Your listing photos are your first opportunity to make a great impression. Before guests read your description or compare your amenities, they’re looking at your pictures. After more than 14 years as an Airbnb Superhost and Airbnb Ambassador, I’ve learned that great photography can dramatically increase interest in your property without changing anything else.
You don’t need to hire a professional photographer every time you update your listing. With thoughtful preparation and a few simple techniques, you can create inviting photos that help guests imagine themselves staying in your home.

Clean Before You Photograph
Photography begins with preparation.
Dust furniture, polish mirrors, vacuum floors, straighten pillows, hide cleaning supplies, and remove unnecessary clutter. Even high-quality cameras can’t compensate for a room that looks untidy.
My Airbnb Cleaning Checklist helps ensure every room is ready before I pick up the camera.
Take Photos During the Day
Natural light makes almost every room look brighter and more welcoming.
Open curtains and blinds, turn on interior lights if necessary, and photograph your property during daylight hours whenever possible.
Avoid using a camera flash because it often creates harsh shadows.
Stage Each Room
Small details make a big difference.
Fold towels neatly, arrange pillows, set the dining table, place fresh flowers on the counter, and make every bed look inviting. Guests aren’t simply booking a room. They’re imagining the experience of staying there.

Photograph Every Important Space
Guests want to know exactly what they’re booking.
Include photos of every bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, outdoor space, workspace, laundry area, and parking if available. Complete listings build trust.
Don’t forget your Airbnb Outdoor Spaces if you have a patio, porch, or backyard.
Show the Amenities
If you’ve invested in thoughtful amenities, make sure guests can see them.
Photograph your coffee station, stocked kitchen, comfortable workspace, smart lock, welcome basket, and any special features that make your property unique.
Those details often help guests choose your listing over another.

Use Wide Angles Carefully
Wide-angle photos help rooms feel spacious, but avoid making them look unrealistic.
Guests appreciate accurate representations of your home. Photos that exaggerate room size often lead to disappointment after arrival.
Keep Editing Simple
Adjust brightness and straighten images if needed, but resist the temptation to over-edit.
Your listing should accurately reflect what guests will experience when they walk through the door.
Update Photos Regularly
Your Airbnb changes over time.
Whenever you add new furniture, renovate a room, improve landscaping, or refresh décor, update your listing photos so they accurately reflect your current space.
Think Like a Guest
As you review your photos, imagine you’ve never seen the property before.
Would you understand the layout? Would you feel confident booking? Are there any surprises waiting after arrival?
Honest photography creates realistic expectations and better reviews.
Photography Is Part of Hospitality
Beautiful listing photos don’t just attract more bookings. They help guests make informed decisions while setting accurate expectations before arrival.
Many of the lessons I’ve learned over the years are reflected in Airbnb Hosting Lessons: What 14 Years Taught Me, where I share the habits that have helped me welcome thousands of travelers.
Great Photos Open the Door
Your listing photographs are often the reason someone clicks on your property instead of scrolling to the next one. A clean, thoughtfully staged home paired with honest, inviting photography builds confidence before guests ever send a booking request.
