Airbnb Cleaning Schedule: A Simple Routine That Keeps Every Stay Five-Star
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned after more than 14 years as an Airbnb Superhost and Airbnb Ambassador is that great cleaning isn’t something you do once. It’s a system you follow every single time.
Guests notice cleanliness before they notice your décor, furniture, or amenities. A spotless home creates confidence from the moment they walk through the door. It tells them you’ve cared for the property and prepared specifically for their arrival.
That’s why every successful host should have an Airbnb cleaning schedule. It saves time, reduces stress, and helps ensure nothing gets overlooked between reservations.
If you’re preparing your first Airbnb, you can start hosting through my Airbnb referral link. You’ll also find many of the cleaning products I recommend in my Ultimate Shopping Guide for Airbnb Hosts.
Start Immediately After Checkout
The best time to begin your cleaning routine is as soon as guests leave.
Walk through the property, open curtains, collect trash, gather used linens, and check every room for forgotten belongings. Addressing these tasks first makes the rest of your cleaning process much more efficient.
Wash All Linens
Fresh bedding is one of the easiest ways to make guests feel welcome.
Wash sheets, pillowcases, towels, washcloths, bath mats, and kitchen towels after every stay. Keep multiple sets available so you can prepare the next reservation while laundry is running.
You’ll find additional ideas in Airbnb Bedroom Essentials and Airbnb Bathroom Essentials.
Clean the Kitchen Thoroughly
Guests expect every surface to feel fresh.
Sanitize countertops, wipe cabinet handles, clean appliances, empty the refrigerator, wash dishes, inspect cookware, refill coffee supplies, and replace sponges if necessary.
Use my Airbnb Kitchen Checklist to make sure nothing gets missed.
Disinfect High-Touch Surfaces
Pay special attention to the items guests touch most often.
Clean light switches, doorknobs, remote controls, cabinet pulls, appliance handles, thermostats, and keypads using appropriate disinfectants.
These small details contribute to a healthier environment while reassuring guests that cleanliness is a priority.
Refresh the Bathroom
Bathrooms deserve extra attention between every reservation.
Scrub sinks, toilets, showers, mirrors, and floors. Replace toiletries, refill soap dispensers, fold fresh towels, and inspect every corner for water spots or stray hairs.
A sparkling bathroom immediately builds guest confidence.
Vacuum and Dust Every Room
Dust collects quickly, even when a property hasn’t been occupied for long.
Vacuum carpets and rugs, sweep hard floors, dust furniture, wipe baseboards as needed, and clean under beds and sofas regularly.
Guests often notice these overlooked spaces.
Restock Essential Supplies
Before leaving the property, make sure guests have everything they’ll need.
Replace toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, coffee, tea, bottled water, tissues, cleaning supplies, and other essentials.
My Airbnb Supplies Checklist makes this process much easier.
Inspect Before Every Arrival
Cleaning and inspection should go hand in hand.
Test lights, appliances, smoke detectors, Wi-Fi, locks, and thermostats. Look for burned-out bulbs, dripping faucets, loose furniture, or anything that might affect the guest experience.
Small repairs are much easier to address before check-in than during a reservation.
Create Weekly and Monthly Tasks
Not every job needs to happen after every guest.
Schedule deeper cleaning tasks like washing windows, shampooing carpets, cleaning behind appliances, checking HVAC filters, and inspecting outdoor spaces on a weekly or monthly basis.
Routine maintenance helps your Airbnb stay in excellent condition year-round.
Use a Written Checklist
Even experienced hosts forget things occasionally.
A written cleaning schedule creates consistency whether you’re cleaning yourself or working with a cleaning team.
My complete Airbnb Cleaning Checklist has become one of the most valuable resources in my hosting business.
Consistency Builds Better Reviews
Guests may not remember every decorative detail in your home, but they’ll always remember whether it felt clean.
That’s one of the reasons cleanliness continues to be one of the strongest predictors of five-star reviews.
