Tanzania: Food Systems, Women’s Entrepreneurship, and Sustainable Development

My Work in Tanzania
My consulting work in Tanzania centered on strengthening organizations, supporting entrepreneurs, and helping agricultural businesses build stronger foundations for sustainable growth. The work combined practical business strategy with community-centered development and an appreciation for the realities faced by local producers.
Throughout my international consulting career, Tanzania reinforced the importance of creating solutions that are practical, culturally appropriate, and designed to continue long after a consulting assignment has ended. Sustainable development happens when organizations build their own capacity rather than relying on outside expertise indefinitely.
Working alongside local leaders also deepened my understanding of the connections between agriculture, economic opportunity, women’s leadership, and community resilience.

Why Tanzania Matters to My Work
Tanzania strengthened my belief that successful development work begins by listening. Every organization already possesses valuable knowledge about its community, its challenges, and its opportunities. My role is to help organize that knowledge into strategies that support stronger outcomes.
The experience also reinforced my commitment to women’s economic empowerment and sustainable food systems. Strong local businesses create stronger communities, and practical capacity building creates opportunities that continue long after a project concludes.
Food, Culture, and Community
One of the things I appreciate most about international consulting is the opportunity to experience each country beyond the meeting room. Food, culture, markets, and conversations with local people provide valuable context that makes the consulting work stronger.
As this Tanzania hub grows, I’ll continue adding stories, photographs, articles, and reflections that capture both the professional and personal experiences that shaped my time there.
