Head First: Make Mental Health a Priority This World Mental Health Day

The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day is “Make mental health for all a global priority”. Too often we neglect our mental health and fail to take seriously the mental health needs of others. It’s not until disaster strikes that someone says, “Oh I wish we could have done more.” Well, the time is now. Do more before disaster strikes.
I’m fortunate to be alive today. This is because I honestly know we’re it not for my deep desire to not leave my son without a mother I might not be. There have been many days were I wanted to jump off a ledge and that one thought kept me from leaping.
When I was younger I had no such tether, and had no real support network. Were it not for successful emergency medical interventions my prior suicide attempts may have been successful.
My World Mental Health Day Statement:
We can’t afford neglect our mental health or the mental health of those around us until it’s too late. We must recognize that the brain is a part of the body. Mental health care is health care plain and simple.
